Ex-Falcons Ray Buchanan Arrested
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
The last time Ray Buchanan made news in a Super Bowl was in 1999 and this time he once again captured the headlines just by arriving at the airport.
Buchanan is a former Atlanta Falcons cornerback and on February 1, 2007 he was arrested on three counts for writing checks without having sufficient money to cover the checks. Buchanan was arrested as the airport after he arrived on an international flight. This was disclosed by Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.
Buchanan ended up posting a bond for $165,125 after which he was released.
Buchanan, who is 35 years old, was scheduled to work as reporter for Fox Sports Radio on February 4, 2007 at the Super Bowl. When contacted, Fox Sports refused to comment on the arrest.
Buchanan played for the Atlanta Falcons in the 1999 Super Bowl which was also held at Miami. He ended up creating quite a stir when he wore a studded dog collar for the media day. This collar was in response to the Falcons underdog status for the 1999 Super Bowl. During the press conference, Buchanan indulged in verbal sparring with Shannon Sharpe which was taken well by both sides. The Broncos silenced Buchanan when they won the Super Bowl 34-19.
Buchanan started his pro football career with the Indianapolis and he spent 4 years with them before signing up with the Falcons in 1997. He was released by the Falcons in 2003 and played his final year with the Oakland Raiders.
In NFL, Buchanan was better known as Big Play Ray and he had 47 career interceptions and he made it to the Pro Bowl in the 1998 season.
