Everson Walls Donates Kidney To Ron Springs
By Michael Williams (2/9/2007)
It is a well known fact that Everson Walls and Ron Springs are very good friends and have been for very long. Their friendship during their days with the Cowboys became so strong that it went beyond boundaries of the team. Springs became a regular at Walls’ family gathering.
By the time Springs decided to leave the Cowboys in 1985, their wives were good friends and so were their kids. Both families get on so well, that they have taken family vacations together.
Springs is the godfather of Walls’ oldest daughter and Walls is the godfather to Springs’ youngest. This friendship has weathered the storms of years and has bound Walls and Springs to such an extent that Walls has agreed to donate a kidney to Springs.
Springs is a diabetic and receiving the donated kidney from Walls will help Springs to regain the quality of life that he lost nearly three years ago. Springs diabetes has already caused him to have amputation of his right foot and the big and middle toes on his left foot. His rotting kidney has bound him to a wheel, knotted his hands and forced him to wake up at 5:00 a.m. three times a week to have dialysis treatment for several hours.
The kidney is due to be transplanted sometime in March. Once the transplant takes effect, the Springs hands will uncurl and he would no longer be bound to the wheel. He will also not have to undergo dialysis again.
According to Walls, their friendship is conditional and Springs feels that Walls must love him in order for Walls to give him his kidney.
