Earl Boykins To Play With Injury
By Michael Williams (3/1/2007)
Earl Boykins of the Milwaukee Bucks has injured his right thumb and may be suffering from ligament damage. However, Boykins has no intentions of missing any games.
When asked what the diagnosis of his injury was, Boykin said that when the doctor was speaking to him, he was not listening and immaterial what the doctor would have said, he was going to continue playing.
Boykin injured his right thumb in the first half of game against Milwaukee which the Bucks lost 109-101. He had got his hand caught in Tyson Chandler’s jersey which led to the injury.
Boykins was traded on January 11, 2007 by the Denver Nuggets and Boykins said that he was not upset with the management for this and intended to stay at home in Denver during the offseason. However, he was absolutely positive that he did not want to miss the first game against Denver Nuggets. He said that he did not let his emotions rule him.
Boykins is the second shortest played in NBA history standing at 5 foot 5 and he first filled in as the starting point guard after four of Milwaukee’s five starters were injured. During his time with Milwaukee, Boykins has averaged 16.1 point with 4.7 assists.
Milwaukee have listed Boykins’ injury as a sprained thumb and Terry Stotts, Bucks’ coach, said that the training staff were still assessing the injury and were trying to find out how effective Boykins would be at handling the ball with the injury.
If Boykins plays it would be with a splint.
