Chicago Bears and Player Injury
The Chicago Bears are off to a rocky start as some of their most talented players are recovering from injuries or were injured last season and are only now getting back into the game. Among the injured players are Rex Grossman, Olin Kreutz, and Cedric Benson, and Thomas Jones. Grossman played in the preseason opener, but failed to live up to his potential. He had only played in eight regular games in the past three years and is trying to get his strength back so that he can play better football.
Another injured player, Brian Griese was put in the game to help Grossman. Griese, who injured his knee, missed ten games last season. Injuries can set players back causing them to miss games, lose confidence in themselves, and also cause confidence to be lost by fans and coaches. But the Bears coaches’ are standing behind their players in hopes that they will begin playing better football soon. Preseason games are usually just a gauge to see where players are and what they will need to work on before the season officially begins.
According to Coach Lovie Smith, no players will be replaced or put into a new position. He knows that his players will need to work hard this season, but feels confident that they will. With many players who are still recovering from injuries from last season, the team needs to make up for player absences. New players that have been drafted will be expected to pick up the slack for awhile until the injured players can play a
