Damien Nash Mourned

Damien Nash died on February 24, 2007 at his St Louis home after playing in a basketball tournament to raise money for heart transplant research. According to the medical examiner’s office, the cause of the death has yet to be determined and the autopsy report would not be available for another few weeks. Nash was just 24 years old when he died.
During his funeral, Nash was remember as a man with a charming smile who died just as he lived which was competing in sports and helping the community he lived in. Over 1,000 people attended his funeral.
Coaches and players from Nash’s teenage years also attended the funeral. Nash attended Riverview Gardens High School and graduated from East St Louis High School in 2001. Nash played for the University of Missouri Tigers and he was the fifth round pick in 2005 by Tennessee.
He played three games for the Titans and the Broncos signed him up as a free agent last season. He played three games and rushed for 66 yards on 18 carries. In his two year long professional football career, Nash had 24 carries for 98 yards with 7 receptions for 55 yards.
The Broncos have established the Damien Nash Trust Fund with the help of NFL Players’ Association to help take care of Nash’s daughter’s school and health care expenses.
Just before Nash died, he played a charity game that he had arranged in his high school to raise money for The Darris Nash Find A Heart Foundation. This foundation is named after his brother who underwent a heart transplant in 2006.
