Dallas To Hire Coach After Super Bowl
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
Dallas Cowboys have decided that they would not hire Bill Parcell’s replacement until after the Super Bowl. Parcell retired as the Cowboys’ coach on January 22, 2007.
Jerry Jones, owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, has already interviewed 8 candidates for the position and there are possibilities that he might interview a few more before making the final decision.
Jones said that the team was very good and he wanted to make the right decision by getting the right coach.
Mike Singletary, San Francisco 40ers’ assistant coach, was interviewed on January 30, 2007. This was two days after Norv Turner ,also with the 49ers as offensive coordinator, was interviewed. Turner had worked previously with the Cowboys as an offensive coordinator and head coach.
Besides this, the Cowboys have also interviewed San Diego’s defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips, and New Orleans’ defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs. Three of Parcell’s assistants also interviewed for the position.
According to Jones, he has not eliminated any of the candidates as yet. He said that he did not want to leave any stone unturned before finding the right replacement for Bill Parcell.
Before retiring, Parcell went for 34-32 and he had failed to win a playoff game in over four seasons.
On January 25, 2007, the Cowboys hired Jason Garrett. However, till now his role on the coaching staff has not been specified which has lead to a lot of speculations that he might be taken as offensive coordinator. Garrett was interviewed for the head coach position. Though there are some who think that Garrett might still have a chance of landing the job considering that he was Troy Aikman’s backup for two Super Bowl titles.
