Dallas Gives Leonard Davis The Larges Bonus In Cowboys’ History
By Michael Williams (4/3/2007)
Leonard Davis has just signed a seven year contract with the Dallas Cowboys which is worth $50 million. This is a dream come true for Davis who ended up having six very disappointing seasons with Arizona. Davis was the offensive lineman and when he drafted in 2001 as the number 2 pick out of Texas, everyone had thought that he would become a Pro Bowl level player which Davis could not become.
Davis became an unrestricted free agent after Arizona decided not to name his as a franchise or transition player. The deal with the Dallas Cowboys gives Davis $18.75 million in guaranteed money and he received $16 million as signing bonus and will receive $2.75 million in salary for 2007.
While Davis was with Arizona, he started all his 91 games and also played guard and tackle. In the Cowboys, where he plays would depend on the fact whether the team re-signs Marc Colombo and Marco Rivera. Rivera has just undergone a back surgery. This is his second surgery in less than 3 years.
The New York Giants were also interested in Davis but ultimately he chose the Cowboys because of the place where he wanted to live his life. Davis is from Wortham, Texas, which is around 80 miles from Dallas. His 84 year old father lives there and playing for the Cowboys means that his father would be able to come and watch him play and being part of Dallas also means that Davis would be playing for the team he grew up watching.
