Curry Spells Doom For Orlando Magic
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
New York Knicks have finally won a game after three consecutive losses. They defeated Orlando Magic 94-86. Eddy Curry was the chief destructor for Knicks. With this loss, Magic have now lost four of the six games they have played so far.
For the Knicks, the main was Eddy Curry, who scored 18 points and had 7 rebounds. For the Magic, it was again Dwight Howard who did the bulk of the scoring with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Darko Milicic, who was later fouled out, scored 19 points.
The voice of Brian Hill, Orlando Magic’s coach, could hardly be heard after the defeat. He expressed his disappointed with the performance of his team and said that they did not deserve to win as they did not make shots. They were not able to convert opportunities and were completely ineffective in stopping Eddy Curry from scoring at will.
The Knicks were leading the scoring through out the game. In the first quarter, Richardson provided the momentum and resulted in a 23-18 lead at the end of the quarter. He followed it up with a three point in the second quarter with the Knicks leading at the halftime with 49-34. In the second half, Orlando Magic, led by Hedo Turkoglu, Milicic, Howard and Redick displayed a rare glimpse of their potential and they nearly manage to catch up with the Knicks’ score. Had not the last minute three pointer throw been off target, Magic would have given Knicks a tough time.
Isiah Thomas, Knicks’ head coach, said his team found it difficult to handle Howard. He said that Howard was exceptional on the court and predicted a bright future for him. In his opinion, patience and focus were the key for Knicks to win. He further added that their decision to keep playing Curry had ultimately paid off.
