Chris Paul Of Hornets Returns After Injury
By Michael Williams (3/8/2007)
Chris Paul is the reigning Rookie of the Year and he ended up missing an entire month in December 2006 on account of a badly sprained right ankle.
Hornets’ coach Byron Scott said that Paul entered his office and started jumping up and down to prove that his ankle had healed and he was ready to return. Scott said that Paul acted as if he was playing his first professional game. Scott thinks that Paul is ready for action because of two reasons – one, he could see it Paul’s eyes that he was keen and eager to return and the second one being that Paul had cut his hair which meant he had all intentions of playing.
Paul had sprained his ankle on December 26, 2006 after he landed on Seattle’s Johan Petro. During his time off for rehabilitation, Paul had let his hair grow. Before his injury, Paul was averaging 18.4 points and 9 assists, ranking him third in the league.
Paul has now returned to practice and he also participated in the Hornets shootaround. Paul said that he felt he was not fit he would not have returned as he did not want to hurt the team with his untimely return.
Until he gets back his offensive rhythm, Paul will concentrate more on getting his teammates involved. Scott thinks that it would be another four or five games before the old Paul make a reappearance. +
Now that Paul has returned to the Hornets, Scott would be thinking of changing his starting lineup. Devin Brown signed up as a free agent with the Hornets in December and took over Paul’s role after he got injured. In most probability, Brown will be moved to the shooting guard position.
