Chicago Bears Have No Intention Of Letting Lance Briggs Go
By Michael Williams (4/3/2007)
There is no doubt that Lance Briggs wants to leave the Chicago Bears and has pleaded with them to remove his franchise player label or trade him. But the Bears have no intention of doing anything about disgruntled Briggs so he better get used to being with the team.
According to Jerry Angelo, Bears’ general manager, the team expects Briggs to play with them this season. This was informed by Angelo during a conference call to discuss the trade of Thomas Jones to New York Jets. Angelo feels that the team is treating Briggs well and he is being paid very well on a one year contract. In fact, Briggs is receiving on of the top five salaries for a player at his position. Angelo further added that he had not received any calls from other teams about Briggs.
If reports are to be believed, the Bears and Briggs could not reach an agreement regarding contract extension last spring. Apparently, Briggs turned down a six year contract offered by the Bears.
Briggs has been very vocal about his unhappiness. He has given a few interviews saying that he wants to leave the Bears. This includes an interview with a radio station in Chicago where he said that he would do everything possible not to be part of the Bears organization. Briggs thinks that the Bears have not intention of offering him a long term contract to keep him on board.
Briggs has just completed his fourth season with the Bears and he was the third round pick out of Arizona in the 2003 draft. Last season Briggs earned $721,600 and he had 117 solo tackles.
