Charlotte Bobcats Prepare For 10 Day Road Trip
By Kris Lazaro (5/8/2007)
Charlotte Bobcats have embarked on a 10 day road trip which will see them playing six games. It is obvious that whether or not Emeka Okafur and Gerald Wallace can play for the Bobcats, would have a great impact on the team.
The Bobcats were part of the NBA franchise expansion three years ago and they are currently having their best basketball season with 22-34. There are all set to play Los Angeles Clippers, followed by Sacramento, Portland, Seattle, Utah and finally Phoenix.
The Bobcats just lost a home game to Toronto which brought an end to the record four game winning streak. According to coach Bernie Bickerstaff, earlier in the season individual players were playing well. However, now he felt that the team on the whole was playing well and making a collective effort. The Bobcats have seven players who are scoring in double figures, three players who are averaging six or more rebounds and three more players who are averaging three or more assists. This is despite the fact that injuries to players caused Bickerstaff to use 17 different starting lineup combinations.
According to Matt Carroll, it was difficult to find the right chemistry between players because of injuries that caused the team to make many changes. However, of late the team has got its act together despite the injuries to some players and are performing well.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, all this could come to an end with Wallace straining his groin and Okafur straining his calf muscle. Both Okafur and Wallace are the Bobcats main defense and they are leading the team in steals and blocked shots. Wallace is the Bobcats leading scorer with 16.1 points per game followed by Okafur with 14.9 points.
However, not all is lost for the Bobcats. They have Adam Morrison who is turning out to be rookie of the year material. A lot of Bobcats success has been attributed to him and his improved game. Since the All Star break, Morrison has been averaging 19 points per game and this includes the 26 points he scored which helped Bobcats to come from behind and defeat Minnesota recently.
