Carmelo Anthony A Changed Player?
By Kris Lazaro (5/9/2007)
You can contribute the change in Carmelo Anthony to the sports columnist Mark Kiszla. It was coach George Karl who read the article written by Kiszla and gave Anthony an ultimatum. Either asked him to either to spruce up his all round game or sit on the bench. He left the choice up to Anthony.
So, when Anthony arrived at the Pepsi Center recently to play the Hornets, he had a point to prove. He wanted to show everyone that he was no longer an immatured player who just cared about his own scoring average. He scored 21 points and had 7 rebounds and 6 assists and this helped the Nuggets to win the game 106-91.
After the win, Anthony said that he wanted to win the game and prove to people that he did not have to score 30 points in order to win a basketball game. He further added that he never tried too hard to score 30 points or more because it comes naturally to him.
It was evident during the night that Anthony was trying hard to come across as a professional. The usual smile on his face was not there. Instead he had a business like expression which only disappeared after the final buzzer sounded the Nuggets’ win. This win against the Hornets was Denver Nuggets third win in the last four games.
Anthony did acknowledge that the change in behavior was partly because of Kiszla’a column because he did not think it was true. Before the column came out, Anthony was considered to one of the most matured players in the NBA. He said that every player goes through ups and downs and now he wanted to put everything behind.
Allen Iverson thinks that Anthony should take Kiszla’s comments in the article as constructive criticism.
