By Michael Williams (2/9/2007)
It has been reported that Rian Lindell has agreed to a five year contract extension with the Buffalo Bills. This step will prevent Lindell from becoming an unrestricted free agent this off season.
Lindell’s agent, Paul Sheehy, revealed this news in a statement. Lindell is a seven year veteran and he is in his fourth season with Buffalo Bills. He has done a pretty good job after the release of Steve Christie during the 2001 season.
The contract extension has come at a time when the Bills have eliminated from playoff contention bring their season to a close. The Bills were 7-8 at the end of the season. For Lindell, this was an excellent and solid season having hit 23 of the 25 field goal attempts. This gives him a 92 percent success rate which is currently a single season best.
Lindell’s best kick so far was a 42 yarder when Buffalo Bills secured a 27-24 win against Jacksonville. This game took place on November 26, 2006. It was Lindell’s eight career field goal that tied or won a game in the final minute or overtime. It was his first with Buffalo Bills.
Lindell broke into the NFL scene in 2000 and he has hit all 32 extra point attempts. He has managed to extend his career streak to 223 straight and it is the second longest streak by a player from the start of a career. Lindell is 11 short of matching the record set by Tommy Davis.
Lindell ended the season with five field goals matching his career high. This was against Tennessee where Buffalo Bills lost the 30-29.
