Bonds Perjury Investigation

By Michael Williams (8/24/2006)

On April 13, 2006 it was reported that federal investigators were looking into whether or not Barry Bonds committed perjury in 2003. This stems from his grand jury testimony involving the BALCO steroid scandal that he has been closely linked to since it came about.

This came about when the United State Attorney Office located in San Francisco came forth with evidence to another grand jury; this was meant to determine whether or not Bonds should be indicted or not.
Before Bonds testified to the grand jury in 2003, he was told that he did not have to worry about any other charges that may be brought against him due to what he said. The only charge that he would have to deal with was perjury; which of course was based on what he said while testifying.

This has cast a bad shadow over Bonds once again. In addition to the fact that he is seen as a bad person to deal with as far as the media is concerned, he is now thought of as a liar as well. Many people have the opinion that it may be best for Bonds to retire before he gets himself in any deeper.
