Bonds and History
By Michael Williams (2/26/2007)
Barry Bonds is currently sitting at 721 career home runs and in second place on the all time list. But as the season continues to wear on, one can only help to imagine what the future holds for Bonds. Is he going to hold up long enough to make a run at the record? Or will he fall short due to injury?
To take things a bit further, Bonds is in very hot water at the moment due to his involvement in the steroids scandal. It appears that he is going to be indicted within the next week or so. Will this have any effect on this ability to play the game? So people will tell you no, but the fact of the matter is that this must be weighing on him pretty heavily.
It is safe to say that the majority of baseball fans feel that Bonds has used steroids at some point in his career. This has already tarnished his image enough. But with the most recent developments, some people are suggesting that he simply retires so that he can avoid the spot light. This does not seem like such a bad idea at this point in time.
Overall, nobody will ever be able to take away the home runs that Bonds has hit. But this does not mean that people will like him more or put up with his callous attitude towards the media. At this point, it appears that the best thing for Bonds is to escape the media attention and ride off into the sunset in second place on the all time home run list.
