Barry Bonds holds many Major League Baseball
records that are going to be hard to break no matter who tries. In 2001, Bonds
hit 73 home runs and broke the single season record that was previously held by
St. Louis Cardinal slugger Mark McGwire. During the 2001 season, Bonds also set
numerous other records. He walked 177 times, and had a slugging percentage of
.863; both records that outdid the great Babe Ruth.
In 2002, even though his home run numbers declined, he still excelled in many
other areas of his game. He walked 199 times which beat the record he set the
year before, and he also won the National League batting title by finishing the
season with an overall batting average of .370. Two years later, Bonds won the
batting title again by finishing the season with an average of .362.
Bonds has been the Most Valuable Player a record seven times. He is the only
player to win this award in three consecutive seasons; but in fact he did it
four straight times from 2001 to 2004.
Bonds is currently chasing after the all time home runs record, and is hot on
the heels of the current leader, Hank Aaron.
