Barry Bonds Background
By Michael Williams (2/26/2007)
Barry Bonds is the son of former Major League Baseball player Bobby Bonds. When he was younger, Barry was always around the game which is one reason that he grew up to be one of the greatest of all time. He was born in the state of California, and spent his high school days their as well. During his high school years, Bonds played baseball, basketball, and football and excelled at all three sports.
After high school, Bonds chose to play college baseball at Arizona State University instead of taking up an offer to immediately join the San Francisco Giants organization. In the 1985 draft, Bonds was picked up by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the sixth overall pick in the first round. He stayed with the Pirates until 1993, when he left for San Francisco. At this time he signed a very large contract with the Giants for approximately $44 million over the span of six years; at the time this was a record breaking contract.
Since then, Bonds has remained in a Giants uniform. He is currently playing for the same team that his father played for during his first seven years in the league. If nothing changes, it appears that Bonds will retire with the Giants.
