Baseball - BALCO and Bonds

In 2003, Barry Bonds found himself in the middle of a very heated steroid scandal. Bonds got involved because his trainer, Greg Anderson, was indicted by the federal grand jury. Anderson was charged with supplying anabolic steroids to athletes; this included a number of baseball players, and Bonds name was consistently brought up time and time again.

This investigation led people to believe that Bonds had been using steroids during a time when Major League Baseball did not have a mandatory drug testing process in place. Bonds adamantly denies ever using steroids, and says that the reason he has gotten bigger is due to a strict body building regimen that he has been following.

It was later found out that Bonds used a supplement called “the cream” or “the clear.” This is a type of testosterone building drug. Bonds insists that he used this drug without knowing what it was at the time.
In 2005, the defendants in the BALCO case came up with a deal where they would not have to give out names of the athletes that used the drugs they were supplying. This action saved Bonds as well as many other players in more ways than one.
