Bad Road Teams Can Be Easy Bets
By Kris Lazaro (12/11/2006)
We keep talking about how home teams dominate in basketball but sometimes they are the wrong team to bet on. A good home team against a poor road team can be as much as 13 point favorites. Yep, the Spurs were consistently 13 point favorites over teams like the Hawks. They beat them easily. Handily.
Well, the trick is to find road teams that can cover 13 points. Going into these games, it is usually understood that the road team will lose the game. That can be to your advantage if you find a home team that is very likely to let up. Sometimes the home team will bring their "C" game doing just enough to win.
Home teams in this situation can generally be found if you find that they are going up against a big division rival in their following game. Or that they are going against a team they have a considerable amount of revenge against. It also helps if the road team has already been beaten by the home team a couple of times on the season. There is something to be said of the road team's revenge factor but also the home team's let down factor.
It is also imperative to focus in on Conference games. Because interconference games will generally be pretty poorly played.
