Annika Sorenstam Wins in Her Home Country
By Kris Lazaro (9/22/2006)
Annika Sorenstam wins on the course where she began playing golf at age twelve. This is a huge victory for Sorenstam who has won three other tournaments this year.
As 20,000 people looked on, she sunk her last ball at a distance of six feet and won the game. This is a very big deal for someone to win on their home turf. Sorenstam has one 82 tournaments in her career. This is a great accomplishment for someone who is so young and who has many games left to play.
Golfers who go back home to win on the green where they first practiced is a major accomplishment. Since they travel so much, going home to win is more special than going to an unfamiliar course. Surrounded by family and friends, Sorenstam felt more comfortable to ready to prove that she is a good golfer. There were a few players in the tournament that were catching up, but they could not beat Sorenstam by the time she reached the 18th hole. She was very nervous, but managed to sink the hole. This type of dedication to the game is not found in every player. Golfers need to have confidence and strength in order to play this game consistently and constantly. Many players will give up during their careers because the pressure is too much to handle. But players like Sorenstam, who do not give up, make it home to play and win in tournaments where they are surrounded by those who want her to win.
