A J Nicholson Gets Work Program And Probation
By Michael Williams (4/3/2007)
According to court records, A J Nicholson, Cincinnati Bengals’ linebacker, has been sentenced to 60 days work program and two years probation after he pleaded not guilty to burglary and grand theft.
Nicholson was sentenced by Circuit Judge Kathleen Dekker. Nicholson had entered his plea in February 2007 against the charges he was charged with. He and an accomplice took electronic equipment and other items which were valued at $1,700 from the apartment of Lorenzo Booker, Nicholson’s former teammate from Seminoles, and his two roommates in May 2006.
Charges against Fred Rouse, former Florida State player, are still pending according to Assistant State Attorney Frank Allman. Rouse was a wide receive and he had been kicked out of the team four months before the break in took place.
Nicholson was a fifth round draft pick in 2006 and while he was with Florida State, he was well known for having problems off the field. In 2006, he was suspended for Orange Bowl after he had violated the team’s policy when he took a woman to the team’s hotel in Miami. The woman had accused Nicholson of sexual assault but he was not charged.
This was Nicholson’s first felony offense and the judge rejected the Assistant State Attorney’s request for a jail term. Booker along with his roommates also wrote letters to the judge on behalf of Nicholson.
The judge ultimately decreed that if Ohio had a work program similar to Florida’s then Nicholson could serve his sentence out there.
Bengals did not make any comment on the sentencing.
